The Lost Book of Alexander the Great Andrew Young Books
My husband and I read this aloud on our drive from Cincinnati to Kansas City. Bob is a knowledgeable military tactician and was familiar with the history of this time period. I, however, am not so familiar with military strategy. Still, we both found the book interesting, well-paced, and thorough. Lots of maps and diagrams help the average reader feel connected to the text and able to follow the campaign progression.Of particular interest to me was Ptolemy's use of the written language as propaganda in a time when the vast majority of citizens couldn't read. Quite enlightening.

The Lost Book of Alexander the Great Andrew Young Books Reviews
The Lost Book of Alexander the Great is exciting and profoundly interesting! THIS is how history should be written and taught. I didn't know much about Alexander the Great before reading this, but now I see what an intriguing person he was. What I find particularly interesting about this book is how the author presents history in a subjective light. The Romans’ view of Alexander differs from the Greeks’ perspective. Since most readers are only familiar with the Roman point-of-view, it is fascinating to see an account of Alexander’s conquests through the eyes of a Greek.
As you read, you can see how Young is pulling from primary sources to re-create a book that was lost thousands of years ago and, in effect, unlocking a first-hand account that was written about Alexander from someone right alongside him in battle. Pretty cool! I love a good mystery. Throw in a little folklore and a few omens, and you’ve got a great story! Reading Alexander’s battle strategies provide insight into who Alexander the Great was and what motivated and drove him to be the greatest conqueror in history. I highly recommend to anyone interested in history or who just loves a great story!
A very informative and entertaining read. The author certainly did his homework on this book and it shows. His research method and writing style come together very nicely and I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in the topic or history in general.
