Claire has done a wonderful job sharing her story in this book. As a Counselor and a lover of horses, I was thoroughly captivated through the entirety. She was able to capture the emotional and physical aspects of therapeutic riding as well as helping the reader to correlate human behavior to horse behaviors. I felt that her lifetime experiences will relate to novice riders as well as experienced equine therapists.Product details

As a therapist, I have known about the existence of "equine-assisted therapy" for some time now and regarded it with mild skepticism as the latest trendy treatment modality. How exactly could a horse assist the intricate, difficult process of psychotherapy? I had my doubts. Claire Dorotik's book, with its novelistic format, put my doubts to rest through accounts of troubled clients who come into contact with the herding animal's mentality. The premise is of equine psychotherapy is simple and straightforward because horses focus on the safety of the herd and anything that might disrupt it, they are attuned to unconscious dysfunction in humans as they enter the herd and often urge a person to grow in ways that will promote herd cohesion and safety. By recounting her experience (and her horses' experience) with trauma victims, the insecurely attached and those who struggle with unconscious rage, Dorotik shows us the healing power of herding animals.
Rather than giving us dry theoretical explanations, Dorotik provides the necessary background for understanding these disorders through scenes and dramatized encounters with psychological professionals. As a reader, I sometimes became overly aware of the device, but Dorotik soon moved on to the more compelling descriptions of her horses and the ways they nudge, herd and nuzzle her human clients toward emotional growth. My first real encounter with equine-assisted psychotherapy left me curious to know much more about this fascinating world.
I was very disappointed in this book very short for the price and lots of typos and grammatical errors. The sections on the horse were interesting but the chapters about the people was depressing and I didn't see the correlation very well, it needs to be rewritten.

It is helpful to have a professional expand on what we already know, that working with horses is healing
To us but to also hear of the journeys that other people have taken. I'm excited to have the healing power of the
Horse documented in the many scenarios that Ms. Dorotik has included in her well written and very readable book.
A most insightful book. Totally original. This writer is top in her field and it is obvious. A must read for everyone interested in healing/coaching with horses and personal growth.
The ideas in the book itself are quite interesting which is why I bought it after having read the sample portion. The problem is the numerous BIG spelling and typing mistakes in this book and the lack of structure in general. One reads the chapters without really knowing how they tie into one another. It feels like reading a collection of anecdotes that don't have any connection with the others - or do they? It's confusing what the author's goal is.
For that price, it is unacceptable to find so many errors, many of them obvious, in a book. It is partly my fault for not noticing this was self published by the author, which means (in my personal opinion) that pricing it the same as titles which are published by professionals is not justified. One might overlook some mistakes more easily if a book was more reasonably and appropriately priced as a self published book but not with a $10 price, which is what many professionally written/reviewed/edited/published ebooks are sold for. In fact, the incredible amount of errors would still have even been too high for half that price - there were just that many!!
Unfortunately I realized this only when it was already too late to return it or else I would not have kept it even if the content is interesting. There are far too many better books to spend that money on. It's disappointing that the author just goes for a money grab without making any effort to provide a quality product. The amount of easy to catch/correct mistakes in the book make that quite obvious.
I am truly amazed! This book gave me an incredible respect for the horse, one of God's own creatures. And wow what an amazing job he did. I found myself wondering what our society would be like if we humans acted more like these herding animals who care for one another, protect one another, help one another and do it without judgement. The author has done an amazing job of corralating a horse's response to an individuals unconscious behaviors after experiencing all kinds of trauma; behaviors in most cases that had devastated their lives. I am in awe of the healing power of these creatures for those victims. I'm looking forward to reading more about them by this author as she has a gift that will help and bless many. I whole heartedly recommend this book, it's a great read!
